STFC CERN BIC has welcomed budding new start-up company 2DHeat Limited to the business incubation centre.
2DHeat is commercialising a new ‘flat’ electric heating element. The product, which uses a totally novel materials science, applies specially prepared mixed metal/metal oxide alloy powders as ‘thick-film’ elements directly to the surface to be heated. This enables totally new design approaches and operational problem solving (including potential energy saving approaches) compared with traditional wire elements.
Their process uses a flame-spray application which shortens the overall manufacturing process compared to traditional methods. Longer term, these novel elements will have very wide industrial potential, including for bulk-produced manufactured products and for process industries.
Ian Tracey, STFC CERN BIC Manager said “We are pleased to welcome 2DHeat Limited to the growing incubation centre here at Sci-Tech Daresbury. We look forward to working closely with the team and supporting them in making their innovative new product a market success”.
